Tappan Zee Bridge Crane Collapse: OSHA Fines Contractors for Unsafe Work Site

No one was killed in the incident, but traffic was stopped on the bridge for hours.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Tappan Zee Constructors face a fine of nearly $13,000 for failing to keep the new bridge work site safe.

Officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration accused the consortium of contractors of exposing people working on the site to the possibility of injury, the Journal News said.

A pile-driving crane collapsed July 19 onto the span snarling traffic for hours. Fortunately, no one was killed and there only were a few minor injuries.
