Tappan Zee Bridge Featured on Cover of President Obama's Budget Document
One of President Obama's key priorities is modernizing much of the nation's infrastructure.

The Tappan Zee Bridge, which is currently being replaced by a new span, is featured on the cover of President Barack Obama’s proposed Fiscal 2016 budget, the White House announced this week.
Part of the the President’s message concerning the budget is rebuilding some of the nation’s aging infrastructure, and he spoke at the foot of the bridge last summer to highlight that priority.
In a statement, The White House explained why the bridge was chosen for the cover:

If a budget is a reflection of our priorities as a nation, why shouldn’t the cover be the same? One of the President’s key priorities in his 2016 budget is to modernize our public infrastructure -- something our roads, bridges, and ports desperately need. So instead of the plain blue budget cover that administrations typically affix to the budget, this year’s cover features the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York -- one of the bridges that has benefited from the President’s previous investments in infrastructure upgrades.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo praised the work officials, contractors and others have done to make the $3.9 billion rebuilding project a reality.
“The New NY Bridge is a symbol of the progress that government can achieve when we choose results over gridlock and focus on delivering for the people we represent,” said Cuomo in a statement. “By fast-tracking this replacement with the help of our partners in the federal government, we are on-time and on-budget for one of the largest transportation projects in the nation. This is a dramatic investment in the region’s transportation infrastructure, and I look forward to seeing it used by future generations for decades to come.”
