Tarrytown Girls Battle Mt Pleasant to Scoreless Tie

After easily defeating Ossining 2 weeks ago, the Mustangs found a more formidable opponent in Mt Pleasant.  This was the 5th time these teams have met with Tarrytown never winning.  The last two games ended in a tie and this time was no different.  The Tarrytown under age 11 girls played their best soccer yet and controlled the game for the most part.  Mt Pleasant deploys a defensive heavy scheme that is difficult to penetrate.  The Mustangs still had many opportunities to score including a near miss that bounced off the post by Emma Clarke.  Offensive pressure up front was applied by Samantha Nutig, Talia Fante, Julia Costa, and Maya Weitzen.  Out side pressure was maintained by Catherine Grimes, Caroline Grimes, Sophie Sylves-Berry, and Emma Clarke.  The defense was stellar earning their second shut-out of the new season.  Maddy Navin led the defenders in the middle with strong efforts from Annie Dineen and Sadie Swenson.  Carolina Lopez filled in for Samantha Livingston and controlled her side on defense with many big kicks to set up the offense.  Sophie Sylves-Berry played a perfect first half at keeper and was called in for extra duty in the 4th quarter. This allowed Julia Costa to play up and add a long range scoring threat with her rocket foot.  Despite the many opportunities, no goals were scored and the Mustangs had to settle for the tie.
The girls are now 1-0-1 on the year with two shut outs.  They play next Saturday at Croton.  This coming Saturday, September 28th, the Mustangs will be holding a fund raiser to support their trip to the national games in California next year.  The event is at Doyles in Sleepy Hollow starting at 6pm.  There will be food, drinks, and a raffle with lots of prizes.  The whole community is invited to attend.
