Tarrytown Schools Seeking OK for $73.1M Budget for 2016-17
The polls will be open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 17.

TARRYTOWN, NY - On Tuesday, May 17, voters in the Tarrytown Union Free School District will be going to polls to decide whether to OK the proposed budget for 2016-17.
The spending package the board approved was for $73,153,802, which is an increase of 0.08 percent over the 2015-16 budget, according to the district’s budget newsletter.
The tax levy increase—0.825 percent—is within the state mandated property tax cap levy.

Estimated tax-rate increases are 0.45 percent for Tarrytown homeowners and 11.3 percent for Sleepy Hollow homeowners.

The district said tax rates will likely change due to the ongoing tax certiorari settlements on total property valuation.
In addition to the budget, which is the first proposition, voters are being asked to approve two other propositions.
ProposItion No. 2, the total cost of which is $295,000, is for equipment including a 66-passenger school bus, two 20-passenger school vans and one two-yard dump truck. State aid will reimburse $116,160.
Proposition No. 3 calls for the establishment of a capital reserve fund in the amount of $4 million. The district said it will have no impact on taxpayers but does require voter approval.
There are no contested races for the board of trustees.
Jennifer Liddy Green is running for re-election to a three-year term. Diane McCarthy is running for a three-year term also. Trustee Carl Banino is not seeking re-election. The new term begins July 1, 2016.
Tarrytown resident will vote at Washington Irving School; Sleepy Hollow residents, at Morse School.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
