BETHPAGE, NY, January 17, 2012 –– MSG Varsity’s The Cheering Life, a monthly show celebrating school spirit and showcasing cheer squads from across the tri-state area, kicks off 2012 with a new episode featuring four stand-out teams on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s iO TV (Channel 14).
This month’s episode, hosted by Kelli Tennant, spotlights the kickline team from Bethpage HS, as well as the cheerleading squads from Locust Valley HS, and Lindenhurst HS.

The show also highlights Bethpage HS Coach Jeanne Novelli’s “Fab Five”—a regular segment that asks coaches from one of the episode’s featured teams to list their five favorite area cheering programs—other than their own.
The 30-minute program showcases each of the four squads performing select routines, and gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the activities, priorities and personalities that make each squad unique.
The January 24 episode also showcases:
- Sleepy Hollow's co-coaches—who just happen to be sisters—as they continue the school's tradition of spirit-based cheering (they don't do competitions).
- Bethpage HS’ kickline team, as they ready themselves to “kick off” another competition season.
- The Locust Valley HS cheerleading program, and their efforts to help spread good cheer throughout their neighborhood during the holiday season.
- How the Lindenhurst HS’ Varsity squad has made tumbling a big priority for this year.
“We are honored to shed a light on the exemplary cheering programs throughout the MSG Varsity footprint,”said Michael Lardner, Senior Vice President & Executive Producer, MSG Varsity. “The Cheering Lifeprovides us with an opportunity to highlight student athletes—as well as their dedicated coaches—and the collective impact they have as leaders within their respective schools and communities.”
If you miss it on January 24, The Cheering Life will also air on Wednesday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m.
