TUFSD Celebrates Back to School with a Bash

Tarrytown families said goodbye to summer as they geared up for the start of the new academic year at the first ever Tarrytown Union Free School District’s (TUFSD) Back-to-School Party in the Park. Students of the district had a chance to catch up with their friends and see their favorite staff members before heading back to the classroom.

On August 28, 2023 families gathered at Patriots Park in Tarrytown to enjoy the warm weather and time together before the start of the busy school year. Music played throughout the park while the Bubble Bus made an appearance spreading bubbles and joy for everyone. Children took part in storytime with the ability to take home as many books as they could carry, while craft stations and giveaways were found at every turn. There was even hot food and cold treats for all to savor.

Behind the scenes, Dr. Audrey Brutus, Supervisor of Social Emotional Learning and Community Engagement, worked diligently with the help of the PTA, numerous sponsors, and volunteers to bring the event to fruition.

“The highlight for me was the palpable excitement radiating from the children and their families. Witnessing their genuine enthusiasm and joy was truly heartwarming and added a special, unforgettable dimension to the occasion,” said Dr. Brutus. “I'm genuinely thrilled with how the event turned out. The event far surpassed my initial expectations.”

The idea of creating a tradition where the beginning of each academic year is celebrated with a Back-to-School Bash is already in the talks.

“Bringing students and their families together with district staff in a fun and informal setting is a fantastic way to begin the new academic year,” said Dr. Raymond Sanchez, Superintendent of Tarrytown Union Free School District. “We are thrilled with the positive response we received from the community and are hopeful to host again next year.”
