SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — Croton Mayor Brian Pugh today endorsed Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones, adding to Jones’ broad local support throughout the district among elected officials and community leaders in both Westchester and Rockland Counties. Mayor Pugh emphasized Jones’ historic candidacy and commitment to social justice in his endorsement.
“Democrats have a chance to make history by casting a ballot to nominate Mondaire Jones as our candidate to replace retiring Congresswoman Nita Lowey in New York’s 17th Congressional District,” said Village of Croton Mayor Brian Pugh. “As a representative of our Congressional District, Mondaire Jones will be an inspiration to the thousands of children on the margin of our communities that dream of a brighter future—living proof that the American Dream is still alive. As a member of Congress, Mondaire Jones will be a beacon in the battle for social justice and meaningful change. Today, our country faces crises that would have been hard to imagine just a few years ago. We can start turning the page by sending Mondaire Jones to Washington to help those working to rebuild America keep hope alive.”
“Mayor Pugh has been an advocate for working people throughout his career and I’m honored to receive his endorsement,” said NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones. “As a labor lawyer before his role as Mayor, he has been a lifelong champion for working people and has delivered progressive change to the residents of Croton. Having support from local progressive leaders like him is what this grassroots campaign is all about.”
Mondaire Jones has also been endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Sec. Julián Castro, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Rep. Deb Haaland, Rep. Mark Pocan, Rep. David Cicilline, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, Equality PAC, End Citizens United, Daily Kos, NY Working Families Party, United Auto Workers, Hispanic Democrats of Westchester, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Democracy for America, The LGBT Victory Fund, The Collective PAC, and more than 40 elected officials and community leaders in Rockland and Westchester Counties. He recently announced that his campaign had raised over $827,000 by the end of the first quarter of 2020. Unlike many of his opponents, Jones is not accepting corporate PAC money in his campaign and has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Pledge. When elected, Mondaire will make U.S. history as the first openly gay, black member of Congress.
