Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Wounded Warrior Project's Carry Forward 5K and Walk

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley courtesy of Volunteer New York!.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Bluebird Community Nest Monitors

Join this training session to learn how to become a Bluebird Nest Monitor in order to help protect native nesting birds! This program will focus primarily on eastern bluebirds and tree swallows, although other species may be observed as well. No experience is necessary; nest monitoring will occur between March and August. Ideally, volunteers will monitor the site twice a week in the afternoon/evening. Volunteers must be 18+; those 12+ can register as part of an adult's team.

Garden Care Day (Teens Only)

Students are invited to join Muscoot Farm for a day of gardening. Prepare garden beds, plant seeds, and kick off the garden season. This is a great way to learn about gardening while playing an important role in getting the green space ready for spring. No experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm, a willingness to dig in, and clothes that can handle a little dirt! Volunteers must be 13-15.

Wounded Warrior Project Carry Forward 5K and WalkVolunteers are needed to help make this 5K race and walk a success! Volunteers will assist with registration, setup and cleanup, and distributing refreshments and medals. Volunteers must be 18+ to sign up alone; volunteers 13+ can register as part of an adult's team.

Tree Nursery Setup

Help set up a tree nursery at Ward Acres Park! Activities will include clearing invasives, creating tree beds, and installing a perimeter fence. Volunteers can be 16+ if signing up alone or as young as 7 if signing up as part of an adult's team.
