A small gap was left that will be filled with structural steel.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The installation of stay cables on the first portion of the new Tappan Zee Bridge to open has been completed.

The last of the 96 cables on the Rockland-bound span was finished last week leaving a small gap that will be filled in with structural steel, the Journal News said.

The Thruway Authority has said traffic will be moved from the old bridge to the new one some time this year but hasn’t said exactly when.
