Westchester Children's Museum To Bring STEAM Workshops to Students

Tarrytown Union Free School District

The Westchester Children's Museum in Rye plans to bring the museum to W.L. Morse for a fun night filled with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activities. Sponsored by the Horsemen Parent Teacher Association, students from John Paulding School and Winfield L. Morse School will partake in hands-on workshops, enjoy music, and snacks on Wednesday, May 22.

"We're excited to welcome all our Little Horsemen and their families to our upcoming STEAM night. It promises to be a fantastic event!” said Maureen Barnett, Principal of John Paulding School. “A heartfelt thank you to the PTA for their generous support in making this event possible."

The Westchester Children's Museum will be providing 10 unique activities for the students and their families to engage with. These include some exhibits directly from the museum, such as Clixo magnetic toys, KEVA Planks & Cardboard Construction, as well as table-top activities that cover all aspects of S.T.E.A.M. learning.

“The Westchester Children's Museum is so excited to be organizing this event and can't wait to bring hands-on learning activities to the students.” said Alyssa Martin, Education & Programs Manager at the Westchester Children’s Museum.

The STEAM workshop is meant to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. It also offers a chance for the students and their families to gather in a fun and engaging way. There will be science exhibits, which will provide an enriching experience for both children and parents alike.

“Families will be able to move from station to station, staying as little or as long as they'd like to play with our exhibits, take on challenges and complete activities,” said Ms. Martin. “Students will have fun while actively learning about everything from physics and coding to earth sciences and math.”

The event will be held in the W.L. Morse parking lot from 4 - 6 p.m. and is free of charge.

"I am excited for our primary students and their families to come together and celebrate learning about STEAM. This amazing opportunity, funded by the Horsemen PTA, demonstrates our commitment to family engagement, hands-on learning, and our belief that our youngest learners are mathematicians, scientists, and artists." said Torrance Walley, Principal of Winfield L. Morse School.
