Winning TZB Falcon Chick Names Released

There are two chicks — one a female and one a male — and they were named by elementary school students.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The votes are in and the fuzzy, little falcon chicks are no longer nameless. More than 2,000 people voted to name the chicks Puente and Tarrytalon. The announcement was made Tuesday in a series of tweets from The New NY Bridge Twitter account by the Thruway Authority.

The name Puente was suggested by Claremont Elementary School students in Ossining.

Tarrytalon was suggested by Concord Road Elementary School second-graders in Ardsley.

The Thruway Authority said the state Department of Environmental Conservation visited the falcon nest last week to tag the chicks, which are technically called eyases.

During the visit, they found that one eyas is a female and the other a male.
