The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College to Hold Open House

Director Patricia Dunn and instructors will describe fiction and nonfiction classes and workshops and answer questions.

A fall open house will be conducted by The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A one-hour free sample writing class will follow the reception.

Director Patricia Dunn and class instructors will be on hand to describe classes and workshops and answer questions.

Fiction and nonfiction classes range from one day to 11 weeks and are conducted during the daytime except for Creating the Picture Book and Overcoming Writer’s Block.

Classes at The Writing Institute include

  • Beginning in Late September: Romancing the Novel, Creating the Picture Book, Flash Fiction Workshop, Writing for Children and Young Adults, the Writer’s Essential Selves, and How to Write Fiction with a Historian’s Eye.
  • October Beginning: Writing Dialogue That Works, the Other: Writing Across Difference, Fiction Writing for Digital Publication and Short Story Workshop.
  • November Beginning: Writing Plot that Works, and Overcoming Writer’s Block
  • December Beginning: Writing Characterization That Works

Memoir and TV Comedy Writing Classes Available

  1. Get Over Yourself: Memoir Made Universal. Five Saturday morning sessions beginning October 24, 2015
  2. Funny Business: Writing Comedy for Television. Eleven Thursday evening sessions beginning October 1, 2015

Poetry workshops

Poetry workshops are also available and will be conducted at the Bronxville campus from October 20 to November 17 on Tuesday evenings and in Brooklyn from October 1 to October 29 on Thursday evenings.
