Yonkers Cop Sentenced For Stealing From Greenburgh Doctors
The Rockland resident will also have to pay restitution, the court said.

GREENBURGH, NY — A Yonkers police officer was sentenced for swindling more than $300,000 from two Greenburgh doctors who thought they were making investments. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Mario Sasso of Haverstraw was sentenced Thursday to four concurrent terms of one to three years in state prison for the following:
- Two counts second-degree grand larceny, felonies
- First-degree scheme to defraud, a felony
- Third-degree criminal tax fraud, a felony
Three judgments and orders of restitution were signed by the court for a total of $339,812.
Sasso pleaded guilty to the charges in October.

Scarpino said that, between December 2012 and May 2014, Sasson stole more than $300,000 from two Greenburgh doctors — about $196,535 from one and $126,513 from another.
He fraudulently claimed the funds would be used for financial investments in real estate properties in Yonkers and the Bronx, police said.

Instead, Sasso used the money for his own personal use.
Authorities said he also failed to send more than $10,000 in taxes to the state on the money he stole for the 2013 tax year.
The Westchester County District Attorney's Office worked in cooperation with the Greenburgh Police Department on the investigation, as well as the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
