14 Ward Melville HS Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

The students are part of a group of about 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual program.

EAST SETAUKET, NY —A group of about 14 Ward Melville High School seniors have been included with about 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students include:

  • Gabriel Choi
  • Ho Young Chung
  • Jean Chung
  • Ivan Ge
  • Alexander Lin
  • Amy Z. Liu
  • Carolyn Y. Liu
  • Amber K. Luo
  • Rahul Ram
  • Claire Yang
  • William H. Zhang
  • Lillian M. Zhiy

The seniors will have an opportunity to continue on in the competition for about 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, which are worth nearly $30 million and will be offered next spring, according to a news release. About 95 percent of the semifinalists are expected to achieve finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a scholarship and earn the title of National Merit Scholar, the news release stated.
