Emma Clark Library has partnered with The Long Island Museum for a collaborative "Meet the Author" program in celebration of America's 250th! Librarian Emma Yohannan will moderate a lively conversation with special guest, Claire Bellerjeau, co-author of Espionage and Enslavement in the Revolution: The True Story of Robert Townsend and Elizabeth (Liss). You are encouraged to read the book ahead of time and participate in the Q&amp;A session. Afterwards, you’ll have time to visit the exhibition "The Seat of Action: Long Island in the American Revolution and Beyond", where Long Island Museum educators will be stationed to answer your questions.&nbsp;Tuesday, July 21, 2:00 – 4:00pm at the Long Island Museum. The Atelier

Learn how to create textured landscapes using wool, fabric scraps and yarn through the wet felting technique. The process is highly meditative, involving rolling, layering and gently manipulating the wool into a single unified surface. As the fibers bond together, the materials begin to behave almost like paint, allowing participants to achieve a rich, painterly effect while remaining deeply connected to the tactile and rhythmic nature of the process.

Safe Driving Workshop at Safety Town! This class is exclusively for rising 9 - 12th graders, hosted by Emma Clark Library.Brookhaven’s Safety Town is a replica of a miniature village with an indoor educational facility. Participants will receive classroom instruction on traffic safety, followed by hands-on experiences using miniature electric vehicles, driving through Safety Town first without any impediments, then with various distractions such as “drunk goggles” and “texting tests.” Parents play an integral part in this program and must remain with their teens for the duration of the program. Honor the 250th Anniversary of the formation of the United States of America by volunteering your time safely cleaning historical gravestones in a local cemetery.&nbsp; Representatives from Long Island Graveyards and Cemeteries volunteer group will teach you how to properly clean historical stones using safe chemicals and materials, and explain the historical significance of the graveyard and it’s occupants. Hosted by Emma Clark Library.
Please dress for a mess and bring cleaning gloves if you so desire.&nbsp; All teens and tweens must be accompanied by a supervising adult age 18 years or older.&nbsp; Library staff will also be in attendance.&nbsp; Earn 2.5 hours of community service credit for volunteering.&nbsp;

Ever wondered how the Best plein air nocturne painters do what they do? Come join this 1st time ever workshop and learn from five time Best Nocturne award winning painter, Kirk Larsen. This unique class will help demystify the process, guide you through the steps and introduce you to the tools and materials needed as you paint plein air, at night and gain a better understanding of how to approach night painting. Learn the difference between painting artificially lit subjects vs moonlit and ambient light. The workshop occurs a day after the full moon and if weather cooperates, you’ll have an opportunity to include the moon in your painting.

This exhibition, “The Color of Light: Landscapes &amp; Seascapes””, will highlight individual styles with unique artistic visions and perspectives by local artists Anthony Davis and Jane McGraw Teubner. 
Anthony Davis is a self-taught artist known mostly for his award-winning maritime scenes and seascapes in pastel and oil. He is a Signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and artist member of both the Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association. Anthony’s seascape themed artwork has been shown nationally in numerous ASMA exhibitions, and his work has been featured in International Artist Magazine, and on the cover of Pastel Journal. His paintings have received dozens of awards, including multiple gold and silver medals for pastel at The Salmagundi Club’s Annual Members show. He has also taught his approach to seascape painting and given numerous demonstrations across the country, and currently teaches plein air painting through The Atelier Art School and Gallery. Anthony is represented by numerous galleries on Long Island, New York, Connecticut and Martha’s Vineyard. When not painting, Anthony is a practicing physical therapist for the past 33 years and has recently published his first novel. 
Jane is a Signature Member/Master Pastelist, Pastel Society of America and a Master Circle Recipient, International Association of Pastel Societies. In 2020, she became a Eminent Pastelist with IAPS. She was on the cover, Plein Air Magazine, with a 5 page article, Oct/Nov, 2017. She is included in “Pure Pastel” a nationally published book about pastels released in 2019. In 2014 and 2015, she was invited to be a demonstrator and a field artist at the Plein Air Convention held in Monterey, CA, hosted by Plein Air Magazine. Jane’s artwork has been featured on the cover of the 2013 December issue of The Pastel Journal along with an 8 page article. She was featured Artist December 2017: Huntington Times News, NY.
Jane is a resident artist in the Salmagundi Art Club, New York, NY and is on the Board of Directors for The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She taught pastel painting at The Teaching Studios of Art in Oyster Bay, NY from 2009-2018 and presently teaches at her home in East Northport, NY and at the Atelier at Flowerfield, St. James, NY.
The dual exhibition opens Thursday, August 6th, and runs through September 25th. There will be an opening reception on Friday evening, August 7th at 5:30PM. Join international award-winning ensemble Serenade Duo for an engaging recital of “Global Chamber Music”. Michelle LaPorte, on the flute and Gerry Saulter, on guitar, comprise Serenade Duo and invite you to bring your imagination, curiosity, sketch pads, writing journals and/or any other creative tools and medium to be a part of a multidisciplinary experience designed to bring people and the arts together!
By discovering inspiration through flute and guitar music from around the world, you are encouraged to explore their creativity by working on your own art during this concert performance or you can just sit back and enjoy the music. To enhance the listening experience, Serenade Duo will share some friendly conversation about the pieces and composers. Audience interaction is encouraged.
As performers, teaching artists and “Global Chamber Music” advocates, Serenade Duo has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and the Carribean. As five-time winners of Artists Interantional’s Distinguished Chamber Music Award, the Duo has performed at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hll in New York City. 
Michelle LaPorte is a 2025 Artist Fellowship Grant Recipient. This work is supported by Long Island Grants for the Arts through funds provided by the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.
This event is FREE and refreshments will be served. The Atelier will have some supplies available but you are encouraged to bring your own art materials. Caroline Music School offers private lessons in voice, piano, organ, music theory and composition; as well as three new group classes in choir, elements of music, and film composition! Led by internationally renowned pianist and composer Andrei Romanov, students (all ages welcome!) will embark on a transformative journey, discovering the beauty of music through private or group sessions catered to their unique learning styles. Students will have opportunities to perform in concerts at Caroline Church and in New York City, collaborate with our teachers, and experience studio classes.
