The drunk driver who hit the off-duty Suffolk officer was killed in the crash. Videos of the officer leaving the hospital inside.

STONY BROOK, NY — On Friday, Suffolk County Police officer Christian Vidal was released from Stony Brook University Hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation facility, the SCPD said. Less than one month ago, he was seriously injured when a drunk driver crashed into him.
On Sept. 1, Vidal was off-duty and driving northbound on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore when a southbound car veered into the northbound lanes and struck Vidal's marked police vehicle head-on, police said. The driver, who was intoxicated, was killed.
Vidal was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with a pelvic fracture and a hip dislocation. He also suffered a ruptured aorta. Officer Vidal developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) due to trauma and was on life support for a prolonged period in an extremely critical condition.
