Don't Pitch, Donate!

In the last edition of House Happenings professional organizer Susanne Pettito and I discussed some ways to de-clutter your house for spring.  After the de-cluttering is done, what's next?  One thing we don't want you to do is throw everything in the trash.  There are so many great organizations on Long Island to give your gently used clothes, toys and furniture.  So PLEASE DONATE your unused items!

3 Village Historical Society Yard Sale:  They are having their huge annual yard sale on June 7th. They accept ANYTHING and will give a receipt for tax purposes.  Contact them at 751-3730 for additional information.

St. Gerard's Church - 300 Terryville Rd, Port Jeff Sta, NY 11776
(631) 928-2550.  The church has a thrift shop that is run by volunteers.  All the money made at the shop goes into programs to help the poor in the area.  I donated many children's items and furniture over the years.

Madonna Heights Shelters - shelters that are for women, young teenage girls and children. I'm not sure what they accept as donations but you can call them directly.  The number is  643-8800.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters also takes many types of donations. Go to their website www.bbbsli.org to schedule a pick up.
