Ever wanted to experience the excitement of painting out doors?  Here is your chance. This three hour session is open to beginners – Teens to adults.

We will explore the current exhibition, ‘Local Color 2’, featuring paintings by our local artists.  We will observe and discuss the differences in each painting, based on weather, season and time of day and how color and values are influenced by these conditions. Then off to the outside grounds of the Gallery to your first painting session.  Oil Pastels will be our painting medium. Supplies will be provided.

You will learn how to start a ‘Plein Air’ painting and understand the basic principles involved in creating a painting. Color concepts, values (lights and darks), focal point, composition and perspective will be discussed step by step as we create our painting.

Step 1. Each student will begin with an outline drawing of the major shapes of the objects in the painting (trees, ground, bushes etc.)

Step 2. Then start by blocking in dark, middle and light values, picking out the appropriate colors of each object.

Step 3. Once all the objects are completely blocked in, then you can start suggesting detail.

You will end up with a small finished painting, if not completely finished, you will have a concrete lay in and a piece you will be inspired to finish.
