Emma Clark Library is all about information, connection, and lifelong learning...and that includes your health and wellness! Check out the upcoming programs and resources that the Library has to offer in the coming months:

Healthy Libraries Program (In-Person)
Saturday, April 22, 2023, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Receive blood pressure screenings, get your questions answered, & more. You will obtain reliable, evidence based information on a wide variety of health topics such as heart disease, diabetes, & understanding medications. Students who are currently training in the fields of social work, public health, library science, and physician’s assistant will be at the library to direct patrons to community resources, help fill out paperwork for social services, find housing resources, and assist with finding a healthcare provider & scheduling appointments. This program is in partnership with Stony Brook Medicine and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System and is supported in part by the American Heart Association of Long Island. No registration required.

Health Insurance Assistance (In-Person)
Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Are you looking for health insurance? Health insurance enrollment assisters will be at the library to help you shop for, compare, & enroll in health insurance coverage through the NYS of Health Marketplace. This program is in partnership with the New York State Department of Health. No registration required.

Medicare Basics (In-Person)
Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
A volunteer from RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) will talk about HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program). This is a Medicare Basics Presentation and is designed for Medicare Eligible people who want a better understanding of Medicare – Parts A, B, C, & D and the options available such as the Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help, and EPIC. Tick Borne-Disease: What You Should Know (In-Person)
Monday, May 8, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Anna-Marie Wellins, DNP, member of the Medical Advisory Panel of Stony Brook Southhampton Hospital’s Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center, will speak about the types of diseases that are carried by different species of ticks & the symptoms, diagnostic tests & treatment options that are available. All attendees will receive a tick removal kit and a tick disease handbook. Click here to register starting April 24.

Catholic Health Mobile Outreach Bus (In-Person)
Thursday, May 18, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Registered nurses will provide blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, and glucose screenings, along with patient education and referrals as needed. The last screening will begin at 1:45 p.m. No appointments are necessary; there are no fees; and health insurance is not required.

Dance Therapeutics (Hybrid: In-Person or Online. Your Choice!)
Thursdays, June 1, 8, & 15, 11:00 a.m. – 12noon
Simple choreography to help improve stamina, balance, & strength. Weights optional but use no more than 1 – 2 lbs. Taught by Barbara Schwenker. Offered simultaneously in person and virtually via Zoom.

Monthly One-On-One Medicare Counseling – Phone Appointment
Wednesdays, May 17 or June 21 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (first appointment at 10:00 a.m. and last appointment at 12:30 p.m.)
HIICAP Health Insurance Information Counseling & Assistance Program – A volunteer from the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program will meet with seniors by phone for help with Medicare health insurance information and forms.
Those interested in setting up an appointment with a HIICAP volunteer should contact Nanette Feder at Emma Clark Library at Nanette@emmaclark.org or call 631.941.4080 x. 116. Nanette will schedule an appointment for you.

Blood Pressure Monitor Kits
Would you like to monitor your blood pressure at home? We offer patrons the opportunity to borrow a blood pressure monitor for a period of 28 days. Along with the monitor, we will provide patrons with information on how to have a healthy blood pressure level, how to find heart healthy recipes and how to find follow up information on blood pressure self-monitoring.
The cuffs come in three sizes:
– Large
– Standard
– Small
Plus, one talking monitor!
Note: you cannot place a hold for these items. They must be picked up from and returned to the Emma Clark Library Circulation Desk. More info and check availability here.
