LI Dad Accused Of Assaulting Infant In Court, Case Adjourned: Lawyer

He posted bail after accusations of assaulting his infant son, court records indicate.

STONY BROOK, NY — A South Setauket man who is accused of assaulting and abusing his infant son appeared in court Tuesday and the case was adjourned/

According to online court records, Vincent DiStasi, 31, was due back in Suffolk 1st District Court before Judge James McDonaugh.

DiStasi is represented by attorney Anthony LaPinta. "The case was adjourned for both parties to continue their investigation."

Suffolk County police were called to Stony Brook University Hospital at 1:20 p.m. on January 21 after an infant was brought into the emergency department by ambulance with injuries consistent with abuse, authorities said.

Following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department's special victim’s section detectives, the 5-week-old boy’s father, Vincent DiStasi, 31, was arrested at the hospital, where the child was in critical condition, police said.

A report by News 12 said t DiStaski was accused by prosecutors of choking the baby, as well as slapping, throwing, and punching him; he had a brain bleed as well as fractures, the report said.

DiStatsi, whose address is being withheld, was charged with first-degree assault; reckless assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and bail was set at $300,000 cash, $300,000 insured bond, or $300,0000 partially secured surety bond; bail was posted, court records indicate.

Suffolk County Family and Children Services were notified, police said.
