Mount Speller Advances to LI Bee

Elementary students showcase their talents during school-wide spelling bee.

Top spellers in grades 4-6 at W.S. Mount Elementary School showcased their linguistic talents as they competed in a school-wide spelling bee this December.

After winning their classroom contests, 28 students went head-to-head in the competition spelling words derived from various origins and timeframes. After 10 challenging rounds, sixth-grader George Kuhen was named the winner by correctly spelling the word noctambulist. He will now complete in the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee at Hofstra University, along with other regional champions.

This year’s Mount runner up was sixth-grader Libby Star and fifth-grader Sam Gitelson came in third place.
