Police: Man Burglarized 16 Brookhaven Town Businesses

The 49-year-old's overnight burglary spree began in August, police say.

A Mount Sinai man is accused of burglarizing 16 Asian restaurants and nail salons across Brookhaven Town over the past two months.

Robert Cariddi, 49, was arrested on Monday and charged with 16 counts of third degree burglary (for burglaries in Centereach, Selden, Setauket, Miller Place, Rocky Point, Sound Beach, Patchogue, Bohemia and Middle Island) and one count of false personation.

In September, police say Sixth Squad detectives became aware of a pattern involving burglaries across the town. The burglaries were committed overnight by a person who would break the front window of each business, enter and then steal case, according to police.

Sixth Squad detectives began conducting tactical patrols of potential target locations that were similar to previously targeted businesses, police said. Sixth Squad Det. Michael Fales was conducting targeted surveillance early Monday when he observed Cariddi commit a burglary at Ho Ming Kitchen, located at 275 Route 25A in Miller Place, police said.

Fales initiated a patrol and canine response and Cariddi was arrested, police said.

Cariddi targeted businesses that did have not alarms or surveillance systems, police said.

Cariddi will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate whether Cariddi was involved in other burglaries, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
