STONY BROOK, NY — Shannuel Lamptey, a senior at Stony Brook School, was recently named a Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation semifinalist, according to a news release.

This program seeks to recognize and grant scholarships to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievements, and dedication to their community.

Some of Shannuel’s exceptional demonstrations of leading by example include her four consecutive years of collecting bottles to help the homeless and assuming the head position of both Community Engagement and Equity and Inclusion councils at The Stony Brook School.

Shannuel was one of 1,609 Semifinalists who were chosen among 99,403 applicants this
year, putting her in the top 1.6 percent of all applicants. Of that small percentage, 150 will receive college scholarships worth $20,000.

Semifinalists were asked to complete Phase 2 applications, which include essays, a
recommendation and transcripts. The 250 regional finalists will be chosen by the end of January, and the 150 Coca-Cola Scholars will be named in March.
