Setauket's A 'Buzz' About Coding
Setauket Elementary School first-grade students are learning about the basics of computer programming and building their coding skills.

From Three Village Schools: Setauket Elementary School first-grade students in the Three Village Central School District are learning about the basics of computer programming and building their coding skills using interactive bee-bot devices.
The hand-held bee-shaped devices enabled the students to code the object’s movements through the touch of a series of buttons. They selected between forward, backward, reverse and more options as they program the bee’s path through a map with the goal of landing on a specific shape. These bee-bots are used as part of the district’s elementary STEM program in grades K-3. As part of their activities, the students work to navigate the bee through the map surface, which can be made using with different objects, including shapes, geographic locations and money concepts.
Through the activities, the students are not only gaining a greater awareness of computer programming, but also reinforcing classroom lessons from a variety of content areas, including mathematics and social studies.
