"They put strangers' needs above their own," said the person who nominated the firefighters. Presented by Ring.

STONY BROOK, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Paula Mucci, who nominated the Stony Brook Fire Department. Her son is a volunteer fireman.

Hometown:
Three Village
Hero's job:
Fire/emergency response
Relationship to nominee:
My son and his fellow firemen & firewomen
Reason for recognition:
They answered calls 24 hours a day during COVID-19. They risked their safety to help people in trouble.
One thing to know:
I am so amazed at their dedication and regard for others, especially as volunteers. They put strangers' needs above their own. They can lack sleep and be physically tired, yet if a call comes in, they go right out again. Cold dinners, exhaustion.
Thank you for all you do, Stony Brook firefighters!
