Centereach Home Goes Up In Flames, Police Rescue Residents

CENTEREACH, NY — A Centereach home was consumed by flames Wednesday morning. The Centereach Fire Department and Suffolk County Police Department responded to the North Washington Avenue house around 7 a.m.

Officers escorted residents out of the house, police said. An animal was rescued, as well.

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire from the single-story home. The Farmingville Fire Department, Selden Fire Department, Setauket Fire Department, Ronkonkoma Fire Department and Nesconset Fire Department all helped. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to contain the blaze.

No one was injured, police said. Detectives from the Arson Section are investigating what caused the fire, though they believe it's non-criminal.
