"Teen Takeover" Days at Emma Clark Library (Grades 7 - 12)

"Teen Takeover" Days provide an opportunity for teens to spend the day at the Library with back-to-back programs over the course of a day.

Emma Clark Library hosts “Teen Takeover” Days, providing an opportunity for teens to spend the day at the Library with back-to-back programs over the course of one day.

Saturday, June 29

Healthy Relationships, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Join a representative from the Parents for Megan’s Law Crime Victims Center for a workshop, during which teens will view and discuss eight videos about healthy and unhealthy relationships. This program will encourage deep conversations about the difference between healthy and unhealthy behaviors in both friendships and dating relationships. Hands-Only CPR Training, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Hands-Only CPR can help gain precious time for a person experiencing a cardiac event. American Red Cross Disaster Service Manager Celia Vollmer will teach you how to perform this life-saving action effectively. Teens will be provided with certification in Hands-Only CPR upon completion of this training. Click here to register now.

Healthy and Safety Trivia, 2:30 – 3:15 p.m.
How much do you know about disaster response, medical safety, and healthy living? Test your knowledge and learn important facts at Health and Safety Trivia! Led by American Red Cross Disaster Service Manager Celia Vollmer. Earn 0.75 hours of community service credit upon completion of the program. Click here to register now.

STOP THE BLEED® Training, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
When a medical emergency occurs, do you know how to stop someone’s bleeding? American Red Cross Disaster Service Manager Celia Vollmer will teach you the three quick actions that can save a life. STOP THE BLEED® Training is hands on, and visual representations and reenactments of intense emergency situations will be present. Discretion is advised. Portable Board Games for Kids in Need, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Create portable board games from recycled DVD cases, CDs, and other supplies, to be donated to a local organization that helps kids in crisis situations. Taught by Librarian Emily and Pages Marley and River. Earn 1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program. Please only register for 1 session.

DIY Fidget Toys for Kids in Need, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Create fidget toys to be donated to a local organization that helps kids in crisis situations. Earn 1 hour of community service credit upon completion of the program. Click here to register.

Beach Glass Pendants, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Create a one-of-a-kind beach glass pendant for a necklace or keychain. Using resin, follow step-by-step instructions to create a miniature piece of beach art all your own! Taught by LI Paint Party. Click here to register.

Author Visit: Sarah Beth Durst, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Meet Sarah Beth Durst, a multi-award winning author of over 25 books for teens, kids, and adults! Sarah, a Three Village local, will share the story of how she became a writer, and explain how to write imaginative fiction (the joys of revision). Free copies of Sarah’s books will be available for all teen attendees! Family members are welcome to join this program with their registered teens. Click here to register starting 7/16.
