75-Year-Old Woman Hit By SUV On Upper East Side: Police

The driver of the SUV stayed on the scene of the collision but was arrested.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police have arrested a 38-year-old man who hit a 75-year-old woman crossing the street Monday night on the Upper East Side.

The man, driving a 2015 Chevy Suburban, was turning from East 60th Street onto 5th Avenue when he struck the woman in the intersection's south crosswalk, police told Patch. The elderly woman was hit by the vehicle, causing her to fall backwards and strike her head on the pavement, police said.

The woman was transported to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition and suffered a broken foot and laceration to the head, police said.

The driver of the large SUV stayed on the scene of the collision, but was arrested for failure to yield and failure to exercise caution, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.
