Ex Sentenced In Killing Of Young Mom Pushing Baby On The UES, Prosecutors Say

Isaac Argro lured 20-year-old Azsia Johnson to East 95th Street before fatally shooting her in front of their infant, prosecutors said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The man convicted of fatally shooting 20-year-old Azsia Johnson as she pushed their 3-month-old daughter in a stroller on the Upper East Side in 2022 was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in state prison, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

Isaac Argro, 26, was convicted by a Manhattan jury in May of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. On Tuesday, a judge imposed the maximum sentence of 25 years to life.

"Azsia Johnson was a loving parent who left an abusive relationship and began to rebuild her life," Bragg said. "Her dreams of moving forward were brought to a horrific end when her ex, Isaac Argro, executed her in cold blood in front of their infant daughter."

Prosecutors said Johnson had endured "extensive physical and emotional abuse" by Argro before leaving him to protect herself and her children.

Authorities said Johnson agreed to meet Argro so he could provide supplies for their infant daughter during one of only a handful of visits he had with the baby.

Instead, prosecutors said, Argro lured Johnson to an isolated stretch of the Upper East Side and "shot her point-blank in the temple," while wearing a ski mask.

Bragg said the killing devastated Johnson’s loved ones, including family members who attended the trial each day.

"While today’s prison sentence is a just resolution, there is nothing that can bring back Ms. Johnson," Bragg said. "My thoughts today are with her family members, who have demonstrated their love for Ms. Johnson and their commitment to keeping her memory alive throughout the course of this prosecution."
