Maz Mezcal Reopens In New Location, Owner Says

The beloved restaurant is relocating after 39 years serving the neighborhood.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Maz Mezcal, a staple of the Upper East Side restaurant scene, has reopened in its new Yorkville location this week after vacating its original storefront back in November.

The family-owned restaurant reopened on Monday at 304 East 78th St., the restaurant owner said on Instagram.

For Maz Mezcal's owner, Maria Silva, the opening date was a tribute to her father, Eduardo.

"Six years ago, we lost my dad," Silva wrote. "For a long time, July 20th felt like the day everything stopped. So this year, we decided it would become the day something begins. Tomorrow, we will be opening the doors to our new home."

Maz Mezcal has become an Upper East Side institution over the years, feeding locals, donating to nearby schools, and even providing meals during the height of the 2020 lockdown.

When the restaurant first broke the news that it was preparing to move back in November, neighbors rallied around Maz Mezcal, raising more than $59,825 on GoFundMe to cover the costs of moving to a new location.

In April, the team told Community Board 8 that they would be taking over the space previously occupied by Anand, an Indian restaurant.

Conor Healy, the restaurant's manager, told the Community Board that the new space would feature 67 chairs and around 25 tables, with 1,500 square feet of restaurant space.

"This isn’t just our reopening. It’s his legacy," Silva wrote of her father.
