UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Free live music and family-friendly activities are returning to the East River waterfront this fall as Friends of the East River Esplanade brings back its seasonal event series.
The events will take place at Andrew Haswell Green Park, where visitors can catch views of the East River, Roosevelt Island, Queensboro Bridge and Randall's Island while enjoying music, children's activities and community art.
Friends of the East River Esplanade has organized educational, environmental and entertainment programming along the waterfront from East Midtown through East Harlem for more than a decade.
"What makes these events so special is the atmosphere," Maria Kessler, executive director of EsplanadeFriends, said in a statement. "You stroll along the Esplanade and immediately hear live music and children laughing on the lawn. Parents can relax and enjoy the view while kids enjoy free treats, crafts, and interactive games."
This fall's lineup includes a free yoga class on Sept. 9, a bird walk on Sept. 13, and a a free fishing clinic on Sept. 28.
Latin Rhythms & Dance concert, produced by New York City dance producer Talia Castro-Pozo, featuring Latin music and social dancing along the waterfront Sept. 26.
Head Over Heels will also make its Esplanade debut, performing a mix of dance hits on Oct. 10.
The season will culminate with the Annual Waterfront Spooktacular, a Halloween celebration featuring returning band NOIZ. Attendees of all ages are encouraged to wear costumes, and the event will include pumpkin decorating, face painting and Halloween treats on Oct. 24.
Along with the musical performances, the events will feature rotating children's activities provided by local gyms and hands-on workshops with local artisan Carmen Community Artist, who will teach young attendees how to crochet.
Free ice cream will also be available during the events, organizers said.
