UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Upper East Side is becoming a boomtown for Instagrammable frozen yogurt and the long lines that come with it, and Myka, a global chain known for both things, will soon join the mix.
Signage for the new frozen yogurt shop has recently gone up at Second Avenue and East 80th Street, where Ania Rybka Salon had previously been.
Unlike the sugary frozen yogurt that dominated the previous froyo boom, Myka, which has locations in West Village, Union Square and Midtown, puts a tangy Mediterranean spin on the frozen treat, using Greek yogurt and goat's milk kefir.
Toppings include praline crunch, baklava, fig and orange compotes, as well as cookies, goji berries, pistachio sauce, honey and olive oil.
The new shop will join other recently opened froyo spots on the Upper East Side, like Mythos, which opened this June at First Avenue and East 68th Street, and Mimi's, which will open later this Thursday at Lexington Avenue and East 72nd Street.
Myka will also open less than a block from three more froyo and ice cream shops: Pinkberry, 16 Handles, and Anita Gelato, all on Second Avenue between East 81st Street and East 82nd Street.
More froyo shops, like Yogurt Club and Sedutto, are within a five-block radius.
Myka was founded in Madrid in 2023 by husband-and-wife duo Natalia Morales and Javier Ezquerro, and has since expanded to 51 locations in 15 countries.
The duo named their project Myka, a Latin word meaning "to shine."
"That shine represents who we are: the light of the Mediterranean, the clarity of our ingredients, and the positive energy we want to share with every person who visits us," the website reads.
No word on when Myka Upper East Side will be open.
Myka is located at 1547 Second Ave.
