UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Repairs have begun on a sinkhole at East 80th Street on the East River Esplanade, closing two nearby pedestrian bridges along the East River Esplanade while work is underway.
The new sinkhole is less than a block from one that was repaired over the summer at East 79th Street.
To make way for repairs, the pedestrian entrances at East 78th and 81st streets will be closed, as they were during repairs to a sinkhole at East 79th Street this summer.
Signs will alert the public to the closures.
The Parks Department expects the work to be completed fairly quickly, according to Community Board 8.
