Armed Robbers Strike Near Guggenheim Museum: Police

Two armed robbers held up a man on the Upper East Side, stealing a duffel bag before fleeing into Central Park.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man sleeping on a bench near the Guggenheim Museum received a rude awakening Tuesday morning.

The 32-year-old man was approached by two men around 6:40 p.m. who robbed him at gunpoint, police told Patch.

At least one of the two robbers was holding a gun as they stole the victim's messenger bag containing a laptop and digital camera, police said. During the robbery the victim struggled with the thieves and was struck in the face with the pistol, according to the police. The robbers then fled into Central Park, police said.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries to his eye.

Both suspects (pictured above) are described as 18 to 25 years old, 6-feet-tal, 150 pounds and last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, police said.
