At Least 13 Injured After Tourist Bus Crashes Into Tree on the Upper East Side

At least 13 people were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a tour bus crashed into a tree on East 62nd Street near Central Park.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — At least 13 people were injured when a tour bus crashed into a tree on East 62 st. and Fifth Avenue Thursday afternoon, a fire department spokesman told Patch.

The double-decker, open-top bus crashed head on to a tree aron the outer border of Central Park around 1:30 a.m. The bus swerved onto the sidewalk and into the tree after being cut off by a taxi, Ruchi Pandey a spokeswoman for Go New York Tours said in a statement emailed to Patch.

Those injured during the crash were transported to Lennox Hill, four with serious but non life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.

"We deeply regret the distress caused by this incident and our thoughts are with the affected families and friends of those involved. We are grateful to local authorities for acting quickly to care for those who were injured," Pandey, the spokeswoman for Go New York Tours, said in a statement.
