Inspired by the Roman Maritozzo and a succulent Sicilian way to prepare coffee drinks, TOZZO The Italian Coffee Shop welcomed its first customers in November 2022. TOZZO’s coffees are espresso-drinks with A Bottom, where a generous layer of pistachio cream, white chocolate, hazelnut or dulce de leche, serves as a base for Cappuccinos, Lattes and other drinks to go or for a quick stay. The love for Sicily and its traditions gave Mara, the owner, the idea of reproducing some of the decoration from the streets of Taormina or Caltagirone, little towns where tiles are hand-painted and used anarchically on the very streets and stairs of the villages. The Door to TOZZO is a wonderful example of a reproduction of a Sicilian ancient door, together with an unexpected Italian “persiana”/shutters on the window. Passing by Tozzo transports you to a quick but deep experience of an Italian village street. The same as cute and realistic are the stools and the touches inside. King of the space stays unbeaten a huge mural, welcoming the customer with a sunny and joyful look, also reproduction of a real mural in Caltagirone, Sicily. The products offered are imported form Italy or made by Italian bakers in nyc: the Maritozzo is a sweet bread open on top, filled with whipped cream, very popular in Rome for breakfast; At Tozzo is served with variations to the basic recipe, adding a delicious layer of pistachio, hazelnut or chocolate spreads of high quality. This oval puffy face is also used with a savory filling, showing all its tasty versatility, so to create panino-kind delicatessen with eggs, prosciutto, mortadella and other Italian cold meats and imported cheeses.
