Driver Critically Injured In Upper East Side Crash, Police Say

Early Monday morning a driver was critically injured when they rear-ended an SUV on the Upper East Side.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are investigating a two-car crash that occurred early Monday morning on the Upper East Side and left one driver in critical condition, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

Shortly before 1 a.m. a black sedan rear-ended a gray SUV on Park Avenue, police told Patch. The sedan was heading south on Park Avenue when it crashed into the SUV between East 85th and 84th streets, an NYPD spokesman said.

The driver of the sedan was taken to Weill-Cornell Medical Center in critical but stable condition, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. A passenger in the SUV suffered a leg injury and was also take to Weill-Cornell Medical Center, police said.

The two vehicles involved in the crash appeared to be towed to East 66th Street after the collision. Photos show extensive damage to both the sedan and SUV.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad will determine the cause of the collision and whether the driver should be charged, police said.

Neither of the people injured during the crash were identified, police told Patch.
