Elderly Woman Robbed, Injured On Upper East Side Street: Police

An 88-year-old woman suffered a broken shoulder during a Thanksgiving Day robbery on the Upper East Side, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An elderly woman suffered a broken shoulder when she fell to the ground while being robbed on an Upper East Side street on Thanksgiving, according to police, who released images of a man suspected of committing the robbery.

Around 1:05 p.m. Thursday, the 88-year-old victim was walking on York Avenue near East 89th Street when the unidentified man approached her and snatched the purse from her hands, causing her to fall to the ground, police said.

The man fled west on 89th Street, according to police. The woman was brought to Weill Cornell Hospital in stable condition for a broken left shoulder. Her purse had an estimated value of $115, police said.

Police released surveillance images showing the male suspect, described as between 20 and 30 years old.
