Elderly Woman Robbed In Upper East Side Supermarket, Police Say

The woman's wallet, containing cash and credit cards, was stolen in a Morton Williams store on First Avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted for stealing an elderly woman's wallet inside an Upper East Side supermarket, police said.

The suspect (pictured above) approached a 71-year-old woman from behind inside a Morton Williams store on First Avenue between East 71st and 72nd streets on Dec. 19, police said. The man grabbed the woman's Coach wallet, which contained about $100 in cash and credit cards, police said.

The theft was unnoticed and the man fled the supermarket in an unknown direction, police said. The woman was not harmed, police said.

The suspect is described as a man standing about 5-foot-6 and weighing about 160 pounds with a bald head and medium complexion. The man was last seen wearing glasses, black jeans, a black t-shirt, and a black jacket with black and white sneakers, police said.
