Exterminator Arrested After Stealing $200 From 81-Year-Old Woman: Police

The visually impaired senior citizen told police that a man working as an exterminator entered her bedroom and stole $200 from her purse.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man is facing charges after stealing $200 from a visually impaired elderly resident on the Upper East Side, police said.

On Tuesday, July 26, police responded to a residential building on the 500 block of East 79th Street between York and East End avenues. When they arrived, an 81-year-old woman told them that a man working as an exterminator in the building entered her bedroom and removed $200 from her purse, police said.

The woman, who is visually impaired, told police that she was suspicious of the man because he lingered in her bedroom. The man was arrested the next day, when two 19th precinct officers called the exterminator's company and learned his schedule for the next day. While the klepto exterminator was going about his business he was intercepted by police and arrested. The man, 47, has been charged with petit larceny, police said.
