Upper East Side Portion of FDR Drive to Close for Early Morning Weekend Traffic, Again

The highway will be closed from 61st Street to 96th Street for early morning hours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The FDR Drive will be closed from 61st Street to 96th Street during early morning traffic hours this weekend — July 30 to August 1 — according to the New York City Department of Transportation.

Traffic in both directions will be diverted off of the highway on Saturday from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday from 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and Monday from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., officials said.

The road closures are a result of — once again — ongoing construction at the Rockefeller University.

Northbound traffic will be diverted off the highway at the 61st Street exit and will be directed to head uptown on 1st Avenue. Drivers will then be able to get back on the FDR at 96th street. Drivers heading south will get off the highway at 96th street before heading downtown on 2nd Avenue and re-joining the highway at the 42nd Street temporary entrance ramp, DOT officials said.

The road closing will also shut down the RFK Bridge off-ramp and the Third Avenue Bridge off-ramp.
