Forget Black Friday, Snag a Free Kitten at the ASPCA Instead
The ASPCA is waiving adoption fees for cats and kittens at its Upper East Side adoption center the day after Thanksgiving.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — There is no better way to nurse a turkey hangover quite like hanging out with a new feline friend.
This Friday, Nov. 25, the ASPCA will be waiving adoption fees on all its cats and kittens at its Upper East Side adoption center. So forget waking up at 3 a.m. to get that discounted food processor this Black Friday, and grab one of nearly 100 cats and kittens currently living at the ASPCA center.
"The holiday season can be a great time to welcome a new pet into your home," said Gail Buchwald, senior vice president of the ASPCA Adoption Center. "This year, consider skipping the long lines at department stores and spend your Black Friday expanding your family with a new furry friend."

The ASPCA is waiving adoption fees — usually $125 for kittens younger than 4-months-old and $75 between 4-months and 3-years-old — for the center's sixth annual "Cat Friday Adoption Event." In addition to the great deal adopters will be given the chance to enter a contest to win tickets to "Cats" the musical.
The ASPCA adoption center is located on 424 E. 92nd St. between First and York avenues. The center is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Anyone interested in adopting a pet must follow these steps (via ASPCA website):
- You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt;
- If you are interested in adopting a dog, please make sure to bring all of the members of your household including any resident dogs. In some cases, this may be a requirement to adopt. If you live alone and have a resident dog, please make sure to bring a trusted friend or family member to wait with your resident dog while you go on a tour, as owned pets are not permitted on tours;
- If you have a resident cat, please leave them at home as we cannot perform any adoptions with resident cats present;
- You may be asked to provide one personal reference, reachable by phone;
- Be sure to check your building’s policy relevant to pet ownership to avoid any landlord concerns;
- If you have any questions, please call the Adoption Desk at (212) 876-7700, ext. 4120;
- In most cases, you can take your new pet home on the same day. Prepare your home and check out our adoption tips before you pay us a visit.
