Liz Krueger Wins Another Term In NY's 28th Senate District

Incumbent State Sen. Liz Krueger fended off Republican Michael Zumbluskas on Tuesday to win another term representing Manhattan in Albany.

Krueger, a Democrat, has served in the State Senate since 2002, representing the Upper East Side and parts of Midtown, Murray Hill and Gramercy​. Her challenger is Michael Zumbluskas, running on the Republican and Independence party lines.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Democratic State Sen. Liz Krueger soundly defeated her Republican challenger Michael Zumbluskas in Tuesday's general election, securing another term representing the 28th District in Albany.

Krueger, a Democrat, has served in the State Senate since 2002, representing the Upper East Side and parts of Midtown, Murray Hill and Gramercy.

With 100 percent of in-person voting precincts reporting as of midnight, Krueger led with 74.4 percent of the vote, with Zumbluskas trailing at 25.6 percent. New York will not begin counting absentee ballots until next week.

Zumbluskas, a Republican, is also running on the Independence Party line.

Zumbluskas has previously challenged Krueger in 2016 and 2014, and faced then-Assemblymember Micah Kellner in 2014, receiving about 25 percent of the vote each time.

In her Patch candidate profile, Krueger identified her top issues as climate change, improving public education,, affordable housing and access to health care, including reproductive health.

In Zumbluskas's profile, he cited high unemployment, the state's response to the pandemic and a lack of funding for NYCHA housing as some of his campaign's most pressing concerns.
