Man Fatally Struck 73-Year-Old Upper East Side Woman With car: Police

The man has been charged with failure to yield and failure to exercise due care, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man has been arrested for fatally striking an Upper East Side woman with his car Friday afternoon.

Pjerin Gjerji, 48, was turning right in the crosswalk at East 86th Street and York Avenue around 3:05 p.m. when he struck Blanca Pagan, a 73-year-old resident of the Upper East Side, police told Patch. Pagan was transported to an area hospital where she later died from injuries suffered during the collision, police said.

Following an investigation, Gjerji was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, police told Patch.
