Man Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run On The Upper East Side, Police Say

The man was rushed to NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man was arrested and charged after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run on the Upper East Side early Friday morning, New York City Police Department officials said.

The incident began when the victim, Terrill Jenkins, 44, was walking in the vicinity of Lexington Avenue and East 61st Street when a driver hit him and then sped off, just before 5 a.m.

Jenkins, who lived in Harlem, sustained severe trauma to his body and was rushed to NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

According to the NYPD, 33-year-old Vincent Spano was arrested on Friday and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failing to use due care, resulting in a serious injury.

A source inside the NYPD said the man, who is from Palm Harbor, Florida, turned himself in. Police said the investigation is underway.
