Man Robs 73-Year-Old Woman in Upper East Side Supermarket: Police

The suspect approached the elderly woman from behind and removed her wallet from her purse, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are trying to identify a man who stole from an elderly woman at an Upper East Side Grocery Store.

The robbery occurred Wednesday around 3 p.m. at the Gristedes at 1343 Lexington Avenue between East 89th and East 90th streets, police told Patch. The thief approached the 73-year-old victim from behind before taking her wallet from her purse, police said.

While still inside the store, the man took money and lottery tickets out of the wallet before disposing of it, police told Patch. The man then fled the store in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspect is described as around 40-years-old and standing 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 inches tall. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a blue shirt, dark colored jeans, glasses and white sneakers, police said.
