Man Slams Woman's Head Against UES Subway Car: NYPD

The unprovoked shove left the woman in critical condition, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man shoved a woman's head into a subway car early Sunday morning in an unprovoked attack that left her in critical condition, police said.

The 35-year-old woman was walking along the downtown-bound subway platform at the Lexington Avenue - 63rd Street subway station at around 6 a.m. when a man walked up behind her, according to officials.

Police said the man then shoved the woman into a departing E train, with her head hitting the train car and then the platform.

First responders rushed the critically injured woman to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she is being treated for cuts to her head and spinal injuries, police said.

The unidentified man fled the station on foot, but police released a photo of a man they believe is connected to the incident, and described him as approximately 30 to 40-years-old and around five foot six inches tall.

NYPD crime data show that Upper East Side subway crimes are up by 20 percent year-to-date — or three incidents — compared to 2022. But the stats show that compared to this time in 2022, there has been a rise in reported transit assaults.

At this point in 2022, there had been only one reported subway assault in the Upper East Side. So far this year, there has been six reported felony assaults, according to police crime data.

Police data also says that so far this year, the 77th Street 6 train subway station has had the most reported incidents — eight total — most of which were thefts.
