Man Steals Coat, Threatens To Shoot Security Guard On UES: Police

The theft and shooting threat occurred at a luxury clothing retailer on Madison Avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who stole a jacket from a luxury clothing retailer on the Upper East Side, police said.

The suspect entered Moncler Clothing on Madison Avenue and East 60th Street around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, police said. The man walked over to a winter coat, picked it off the rack and then attempted to exit the store without paying, police said.

The coat thief threatened to shoot a security guard who attempted to stop the man from leaving the store, police said. After the shooting threat, the security guard let the man exit the store, police said.

The man entered a black Nissan parked on Madison Avenue and fled the scene heading north, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s who stands about 5-foot-8 and has black hair. The man was last seen wearing a red jacket and red jogging pants, police said.

Nobody was harmed during the theft, police said. Police did not disclose the value of the stolen coat.
