Man Tries To Rob Upper East Side Subway At Gunpoint, Police Say

The Subway employees thwarted a robbery attempt by fleeing the the back of the store.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who attempted to rob an Upper East Side Subway restaurant at gunpoint, police told Patch.

The suspect entered the Subway sandwich shop on First Avenue between East 68th and 69th streets around 8:40 p.m. Friday and brandished a silver firearm, police told Patch. After showing employees the gun, the man ordered the workers to "open the register," police said.

The Subway employees — a 39-year-old man and 32-year-old man — thwarted the robbery by running into the back room of the restaurant, police said. Unable to open the register, the suspect fled the location without and loot, police said.

Nobody was injured during the attempted stick-up, police said.
