The Met Unveils New Membership Options

The membership program has been streamlined from six categories to three, which include perks such as guest passes and exclusive viewings.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Metropolitan Museum of art is streamlining its membership offerings, the museum announced Monday.

The Met used to have six possible membership options, but will have three options going forward, each with their own perks such as guest passes and access to exclusive exhibit showings, the museum announced in a press release.

All museum members will receive at least one guest pass, access to exhibitions previews, the Bulletin and What’s On mailings and a 10% discount in The Dining Room at The Met, according to the press release.

"The Met is one of the world’s most important art museums, and we have a thriving Membership community that provides critical support for everything we do, from putting on stunning exhibitions to offering complimentary educational programs for students," newly-appointed president and CEO of The Met Daniel H. Weiss said in a statement.

  1. Member with Early Views.
    1. Cost: $100, or $80 for Members living more than 200 miles from the Museum.
    2. Memberships: One.
    3. Guest passes: One.
  2. Member with Evening Hours.
    1. Cost: $200.
    2. Memberships: Up to two adults.
    3. Guest passes: Two.
    4. Additional perks: Access to "The Met After Hours," where members can explore the museum after The Met closes to the public. Access to the Balcony Lounge.
  3. Member with Opening Nights.
    1. Cost: $600.
    2. Memberships: Up to two adults.
    3. Guest passe: Four.
    4. Additional perks: Benefits at 16 partner museums. Invitation to receptions for new exhibits.

The names of new and renewing museum members will also be projected on the walls of the Great Hall of the museum on the days they visit, according to a press release.

"We are so very proud of the Members of this Museum and we want everyone to know how important they are to fulfilling our mission," Lisa Krassner, Chief Member and Visitor Services Officer, said in a statement. "Members help us bring life to art and art to lives. Without Members, the Museum would not be able to offer everything it does, and we are very grateful for their support."
